Third suspect arrested in deputy-involved shooting

Deputies confirmed earlier reports that a third suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Delano was taken into custody Wednesday.

The suspect, a 17-year-old male, was arrested at his home in Delano on suspicion of possession of stolen property, participation in a criminal street gang and resisting arrest, deputies said.
The suspect had run from a stolen car on Monday when Manuel Ayon, 16, the driver, was shot and killed by a Kern County sheriff’s deputy after leading deputies on an hourlong chase from McFarland to Delano, deputies said. Also arrested was 20-year-old Salvador Villareal, of McFarland, on suspicion of possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, conspiracy and gang participation.
