Nye, 33, was shot in the head three weeks after she became a co-defendant with two men in the robbery case. She survived her wounds.

Police believe she was shot in an attempt to prevent her from testifying in that case. The victim was a 61-year-old man who lives in the 1400 block of White Lane.

The co-defendants, Alfredo Palacios, 25, and Emil Alvary, 24, are scheduled for a preliminary hearing today on charges of connspiracy, burglary and robbery.

They have pleaded not guilty.

Palacios is also charged with three others — all are his relatives — in the attempted murder of Nye.

He and the others — Miguel Angel Santiago, 35, Luis Manuel Vaca Jr., 18, and Christian Jesus Vargas-Diaz, 21, — have pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges.

They are set for further hearings on April 25 and 28.
