Taft man held in knife-point rape

Deputies arrested Tuesday a 23-year-old man from Taft accused of raping a woman.

Felipe Lopez De La Cruz, armed with a knife, approached the 24-year-old victim at her home in the Ford City area some time between Monday and Tuesday, said Sgt. Martin Downs with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect forced the woman to walk to a secluded area and raped her, Downs said. She was then released.
Downs would not say if the victim knew Lopez De La Cruz.
On Tuesday, deputies arrested Lopez De La Cruz at Highway 33 and Cadet Road. He was arrested on suspicion of rape and kidnapping with intent to rape, Downs said.
