A late-night traffic accident in southwest Bakersfield sent four people to the hospital.

On Sunday morning, shortly after midnight, a black Mitsubishi, traveling at a high speed northbound on Buena Vista Road, lost control and crossed the center divider south of Stockdale Highway, according to a Bakersfield police news release.
The Mitsubishi, which was driven by Justin Hernandez, 23, of Bakersfield, hit a gold GMC pickup truck head-on.
Hernandez suffered major injuries, and his passenger Aaron Beilby, 23, of Bakersfield, suffered moderate injuries, and both were transported to Kern Medical Center.
The driver of the truck, Raymond Giancola, 24, of Bakersfield, was not injured.
His passengers, Rhiann Phipps, 23, of Bakersfield, and a 2-year-old child, suffered minor injuries, the release said.
As of 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Hernandez was in serious condition and Beilby was in fair condition.
Phipps had been discharged from KMC, and no information was available on the infant since the name was not released.
