A man driving up to 100 mph on the wrong side of the road at Old River Road and White Lane ran a red light Thursday morning and crashed into another car, the Bakersfield Fire Department said in a news release. The drivers of both cars, a male and female, were trapped and suffered injuries.

Highway 46 is closed for about a week after bridge damage was discovered from an unreported collision.
The fire department responded to the crash at 10:35 a.m. Thursday. After being struck by the male’s car, the other driver’s car driving east was launched 150 feet in the opposite direction, according to the release.
The woman, whose name was not immediately available, suffered a possible broken femur and hip. It took fire officials 15 minutes to extract her from the car. The man sustained moderate injuries. It took officers 10 minutes to extract him.
Both were transported to local hospitals.
The intersection was partially blocked for a few hours while Bakersfield police investigated.
