Officer Bill Toler was driving east on Ming before Valhalla Drive chasing a suspect at 9:02 p.m. The officer was driving “too fast,” hit the curb and was thrown off his motorcycle, said Lt. Gary Moore. A news release later in the evening said Toler crashed for "a reason unknown at this time."

Ming Avenue’s eastbound lanes were closed at the intersection, while one westbound lane remained open. Several police cars lined the street.

The officer complained of pain in his shoulder, and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, police said. He was wearing safety gear.

“At this point his injuries are not life-threatening,” Moore said.

Police did not immediately have information on the suspect.
