The rising cost of oil has stymied plans to add more nonstop flights to Las Vegas from Meadows Field, airport officials said Tuesday.

Allegiant Air had run occasional charter flights from Bakersfield to Las Vegas for special trips and planned to announced a switch to regular service, said Jack Gotcher, director of Kern County Airports.
But the airline decided to hold off at the last minute.
“Today when oil hit $108 a barrel, they said let's put this start off a month or two,” Gotcher said, adding that he’s “skeptical if it will be just a month.”
Meadows Field currently offers one flight a day to Sin City on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to the airport’s flight schedule.
