The organization is also planning to increase its staff to serve Bakersfield, which has one of California’s highest foreclosure rates, the release states.

“We’ll travel down there and hold classes, and one-on-one foreclosure counseling,” said Michael Lane, a Self-Help spokesman.

A $50,000 grant from Bank of America helped fund the added services, the release states.

On Thursday, Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall, Self-Help Enterprises CEO Peter Carey and Bank of America representatives will hold a press conference at City Hall to discuss the hotline and the foreclosure crisis.

Homeowners can reach foreclosure counselors at 1-888-412-0828, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Lane said. Messages left after hours will also be returned.
