Department to investigate woman’s ‘suspicious death’
Detectives are investigating a “suspicious death” of a 49-year-old woman.
About 3:30 p.m. Friday, deputies found a woman not breathing at a home in the 800 block of Richmond Street, according to a news release from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives interviewed the woman’s common-law husband, who gave inconsistent statements about what happened, the news release said.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The woman has not been identified.
Homeowner shoots man who allegedly broke into home
A 47-year-old man was shot by a homeowner Friday after he allegedly broke in to the home to get to his ex-girlfriend.
The suspect, Andrew Giebler, 47, was later arrested on suspicion of violating a domestic restraining order, burglary and stalking, according to a news release by the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
At about 5 p.m., Giebler had broken into a home located in the 8000 block of Shannon Drive and began fighting people, the news release said. His ex-girlfriend was staying at the home and has a domestic violence restraining order against him.
The homeowner shot Giebler in self-defense, the news release said. The suspect was hit in the shoulder.
Giebler took the gun from the homeowner and ran away from the home.
Deputies found Giebler nearby and arrested him without incident.
Giebler suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to Kern Medical Center, the news release said. He was scheduled to be taken to jail later Friday evening.
