Edison schools chief to be named

An interim replacement for the resigning Edison Elementary School District superintendent will be named today at a board meeting.

The board accepted Cheri Sanders' resignation late Monday after an investigation found she mishandled district funds. She used a district credit card to pay for alcohol, personal purchases without reimbursing the district, and didn't reimburse the district when cash was received from another employee for a personal purchase.
The five member governing body also agreed to pay Sanders her full salary and benefits through the expiration of her contract on June 30. She will have be paid approximately $80,000 while someone else does her job.
Sanders was placed on paid administrative leave in November while a state's Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team reviewed her case. Mike Butcher is the interim superintendent but prior commitments will not allow him to continue in this role.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Orangewood Elementary School, 9600 Eucalyptus Drive.
