An arraignment Monday in Kern County Superior Court for Jerald Larry, 24, of Bakersfield was postponed until Wednesday by Judge Michael Lewis.
Larry is being held without bail in connection with the Sept. 23 killing of 16-year-old Joshua Ward.
He faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting at an occupied dwelling, said Kern County Sheriff's Sgt. Ed Komin.
The teen was shot at the Fairfax Grange on Fairfax Road at about 2 a.m. after a dance at the hall, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Arrested the day of the shooting on suspicion of murder was Terrell Scott Young, 19, of Bakersfield. Young's next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18.
"As a result of our investigation, we found out that Jerald Larry was also part of the shooting," Komin said Monday. "We found out he was in custody in Iowa on drug charges, so investigators went to Iowa about three weeks ago."
While in Iowa, sheriff's investigators were granted a warrant to search Larry's car. And in that car they found a gun -- a gun investigators believe was used to kill Josh Ward, Komin said.
Jerald Larry's sisters were in court Monday to show their support. Afterward, with tears streaking their faces, they spoke about their brother's situation.
He's been in trouble before, they said, but nothing like this.
