He is scheduled for surgery today on his back and doctors will try to take him off the ventilator as his lungs have responded well and infections are clearing, according to Alvidrez, who spoke with Moore's brother Logan Moore.
Jamin Moore was burned over 60 percent of his body last week when the Humvee he was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb in northern Iraq.
Three of his fellow soldiers were killed in the explosion. All four were assigned to the Army's 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
Moore was flown Friday to Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he was joined by his parents, Kevin and Julie Moore.
