U.S. Army Pfc. Jamin Moore, 21, a Liberty High School graduate and a former Cal State Bakersfield student, suffered burns over 60 percent of his body Tuesday when the Humvee he was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb in northern Iraq.

Three of his fellow soldiers were killed in the explosion. All four were assigned to the Army's 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

Family friend Steve Alvidrez, along with Jamin's grandfather, C.L. "Pick" Moore, said the Army flew Jamin's parents, Kevin and Julie Moore, to Baltimore early Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Moore were staging there to determine where they were going to go next: Germany, where Jamin was being cared for, or Fort Sam Houston, where it was hoped he would be transferred if he was was stable enough.

As it turned out, Jamin's condition was deemed stable enough for the long flight to Texas, Jamin's grandfather said. As a result, Jamin's parents also were flown to Texas to be with their son.

"I just got off the phone with Kevin Moore, father of Jamin," Alvidrez wrote in an e-mail at 5:45 p.m. Friday. "Kevin said Jamin just landed in San Antonio from Germany. He is in stable condition and is en route to Brooke Army Medical Center."

Alvidrez said the Moores are tired, but anxious to be with their son.

They expressed their condolences and send prayers out to the families and friends of the three soldiers who died in the explosion, Alvidrez said.

"They're overwhelmed by the love and support they've received from the community," he said.
