The inaugural flight was Sunday, and on Monday about 20 travelers, including state Sen. Dean Florez, D-Shafter, made the trip. Before ExpressJet added the Sacramento flight to its schedule, at a cost of about $140 roundtrip, Florez and other legislators had to spend several times that to take flights with a stopover in Los Angeles or San Francisco or to charter a flight.
"ExpressJet has finally given us the means to travel more efficiently and at a cost that is responsible to the taxpayers we represent," Florez said in a news release.
The flight departs Bakersfield at 7 a.m. and arrives in Sacramento at 8:05 a.m. The return flight leaves at 6:35 p.m. and arrives in Bakersfield at 7:37 p.m.
Jack Gotcher, county airports director, said he thought turnout was good for Sunday and Monday considering the service has only been advertised for a couple of weeks. He said he hopes the service will continue to grow because the flight is set up for Bakersfield travelers.
"You get there early, conduct your business and spend the day in the city, maybe have an early dinner and then hop back on and be home about 7:30 p.m.," Gotcher said.
