James Winterroth makes his dragon arm snarl.

Blogs:

"Go ahead, look at it," he silently dares people when he catches their eyes.

After he lost the lower part of his right arm in an industrial accident in 2000, Winterroth decided to really give people something to look at -- a work of art. A tattoo.

He would face a lot of pain. But he would finally see more than a "bunch of skin lying there" when he looks in a mirror.

And when people stare at his stump, they would be looking instead into the eyes of a dark, powerful dragon.

Winterroth agreed to be followed by a digital video camera over the two months it took to get the tattoo. Watch his journey as well as his unveiling at a local tattoo convention, in a two-part video series at bakersfield.com.
