Thompson, a Taft City Council member, is challenging 4th District Supervisor Ray Watson for the seat in June’s primary.

County elections staff said Thompson pulled and filed his nomination papers late Thursday after turning in signatures in-lieu of his campaign filing fee.

Both Watson and 5th District Supervisor Michael Rubio turned in their in-lieu signatures Thursday but did not formally file for the race.

They have until March 7 to file nomination papers and lock in a spot in their re-election race.

First District Supervisor Jon McQuiston has announced he will run for office again, but did not pull or file in-lieu petitions.
